‘Sorry Sri Lanka’

Following the incident, several rights groups organised demonstrations in Karachi and Lahore holding placards that read ‘Sorry Sri Lanka’ and ‘Shame #Sialkot’.

Shocked and saddened, from Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan to Ministers to actors to cricketers, journalists to ordinary people, started apologising to Sri Lanka for the barbaric killing incident.

The gruesome incident was dubbed by Prime Minister Imran Khan as ‘a day of shame for Pakistan’.

In a Facebook message to the writer one Pakistani friend Mukesh Raja, who is a teacher, said: “What do you think about this burning dead body! It’s not burning the dead body of Sri Lanka’s Manager in Sialkot; it’s burning our image and reputation in the world. We are really ashamed and stand with you all.”

Actor Irfan Shah tweeted: “Dear Sri Lanka I am sorry, and yes we lost our respect international level after the incident in #sialkot”.

In the tweet, they have opened a page saying ‘I am Sorry Sri Lanka’ for any Pakistani to tweet their feelings on this incident.

“We are sorry Sri Lanka that we could not save him from this brutal act in the hands of some mad individuals. The investigation is going on at the highest level and I am expecting that the government will make its findings public. Our heads are down with shame because of this act.

Shan Ali Panhyar has tweeted: “As a Pakistani, I am ashamed of what happened in Sialkot. There’s no room for religious extremism in society, we are very Sorry Sri Lanka. Stop embarrassing Islam.”

In another tweet, it said: “As a Muslim, I am ashamed of myself. As a Pakistani, I am ashamed of myself. As a human being, I am ashamed of myself. sorry to #SriLanka.”

A senior journalist Amar Guriro tweeted: “Since 1967 Sri Lanka donated 35,000 eyes to Pakistan, but despite that we are blind.”

Former Sri Lanka captain Sanath Jayasuriya tweeted: “What happened in Pakistan was very shocking. My deepest sympathies to the family. However, I know that the Pakistani prime minister will ensure that justice will prevail.”

Roshan Mahanama tweeted: “I sincerely hope the same spirit will prevail and justice will be served as this is a crucial time where all of us are striving for religious and racial tensions to be eradicated in the world.”

Former captain Shahid Afridi tweeted quoting a verse from the Quran: “Whosoever kills a person … it shall be as if he has killed all mankind”
