UPFA UC Councillor shot dead

Unidentified gunmen have fatally shot a ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Councillor of Peliyagoda Urban Council yesterday in Kelaniya. Two armed men on a motorcycle opened fire at the UPFA Peliyagoda Urban Council member 23-year-old Chamila Sandaruwan at a temple near the Tyre Corporation Junction in Dalugama at 11:15 this morning, the police said. The gunmen had rammed his car from behind and when he stopped the vehicle he was shot at close range, killing him instantly. The gunmen fled the scene and remain at large. He was reportedly returning from the Kadawata Magistrate Court after appearing in the court in a case against him.
