The main opposition United National Party (UNP) has decided to call for a Parliamentary debate on the 19th sessions of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) after its conclusion.

The UNP is expected to call for the debate in the first week of May when it would discuss the situation faced by Sri Lanka at the 19th UNHRC sessions and the measures the government plans to take to prepare for the 20th sessions later in the year.

Meanwhile, UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has asked the party legislators not to make any comments on the ongoing UNHRC sessions in Geneva.

He has told them that Sri Lanka has been a subject of discussion in the Council at various times in the past years.

According to Wickremesinghe, the respective governments have managed to overcome the challenges through various strategies.
