The main opposition United National Party yesterday condemned the bomb explosions inside the Mahabodhi Temple in India and urged the Government to ensure diplomatic relations between the two countries remain robust. Calling the bomb explosions inside the sacred Buddhist site acts of terrorism, Attanayake said the Government should take care not to allow relations with India to deteriorate so that the fate of Sri Lankan pilgrims in the country become gravely insecure. UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said the Sri Lankan Government should act cautiously so that it would not ruffle any diplomatic feathers with India. “It is the responsibility of the Government to ensure that relations between the countries are healthy and strong so that our citizens will not be endangered on visits there,” he advised.
