Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians complained to the Supreme Court yesterday that the government is continuing with the forcible registration of residents in the North despite an undertaking given to the Supreme Court to suspend it.

Earlier this month, the Attorney General’s Department gave an undertaking to the Supreme Court that the alleged forcible registration of residents in the North by the security forces would be suspended with immediate effect.

TNA Jaffna District parliamentarians Mavai Senathirajah, Suresh Premachandran, Appathurai Vinayagamoorthy, and Eswarapatham Saravanapavan and Kilinochchi District parliamentarian Sivagnanam Shritharan filed the petition seeking the termination of the forced registration.

The MPs have alleged that the continuing registration contravenes the undertaking given by the government and is an act of contempt of court.  (Colombo Page)
