Supplementary Budget to reduce prices of 10 essential items

The new coalition Government, in order to provide relief to the people from the high cost of living, plans to immediately reduce the prices of certain essential items.
Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake said he will present a supplementary budget to the Parliament on 29 January to reduce the prices of 10 essential items.
Despite the economic growth and increased per capita income, the high cost of living was a burden to the public and it was one of the main reasons Sri Lankans opted to oust the former President.
