State media van explodes

A van belonging to a state-owned media institution in Sri Lanka exploded today injuring four people, police said.

Police Spokesperson SP Prishantha Jayakody said an explosion of a van belonging to the state-owned Independent Television Network (ITN) in the Karagahatenna area in Matale injured four persons.

Among the injured are three journalists and one navy officer.

The injured according to the police are being treated at the Matale Hospital.

The Matale Police are conducting further inquiries into the explosion. The media has reported that the explosion had taken place when the driver had tried to pour battery water in to the van’s battery.
