Somawansa faction claims ownership of rebels’ political party

Propaganda Secretary of the Somawansa Amarasinghe faction of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Vijitha Herath says that the ownership of the political party the rebels try to use as their base also belongs to the JVP. The rebels recently announced that they would reorganise as the United Democratic Front that was formed during last year’s presidential election, supporting the common opposition candidate Sarath Fonseka.

The party is registered under former JVP MP Dimuthu Abeykoon as Secretary. However, the JVP Somawansa faction says Party President former MP Lakshman Nipunaarachchi and many other officials are with them and the Party Secretary cannot be allowed to act on his own.(Colombo Page)
