School van driver further remanded

A school van driver, who was in remand custody for allegedly having sexually abused a 10-year-old school girl in Kollupitiya on the way to school, was yesterday further remanded till 19 April by the Colombo Fort Magistrate.

When the case up before Colombo Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijeratne, the Kollupitiya police informed that they were yet to receive the medical reports pertaining to the victim and moved the suspect be further remanded.

Having considered the facts the Magistrate ordered that the suspect be further remanded till 19 April and further ordered that the vehicle which is alleged to have been used for the crime be released on a Rs. 2 million bond.

In her complaint to the Kollupitiya Police, the victim’s mother had said according to her daughter she had been molested inside the van by the driver after taking the vehicle to a lonely spot. The driver had threatened the child not talk about what had happened.
