The Supreme Court yesterday permitted Supreme Court Judge Sarath Abrew to withdraw his fundamental rights petition.

Judge Abrew filed a fundamental rights petition before, stating that his arrest with regard to assaulting the housemaid and the case heard at the Mount Lavinia Magistrate Court had breached his fundamental rights.

The lawyers who appeared on behalf of him informed the Supreme Court that Mount Lavinia Magistrate Court has granted bail to their client, and they no longer required continuing the petition.

After considering the facts, the three-member judge panel led by the Chief Justice gave permission to Supreme Court Judge Sarath Abrew to withdraw his petition.
