Private sector pension out, EPF Amendment Bill in

The Leader of the House Nimal Siripala de Silva yesterday informed the Parliament that three Private Sector Pensions Scheme Acts have been withdrawn by the Government.

The move was widely seen as a response to strong opposition to the proposed moves.

However the EPF Amendment Bill was presented and passed in Parliament despite criticism against it from the main Opposition UNP. This Bill garnered 71 votes in favour and 12 against.
