President hosts annual Christmas celebrations

President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Thursday hosted the annual Christmas festival at Temple Trees with the participation of Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith. Addressing the event, Cardinal Ranjith said Christmas is not a part of consumerism and people should realise the true spirit of Christmas which celebrates spiritual values, justice and equality. Rev. Father Benedict Joseph conducted the mass at the festival while Christmas carols were sung in all three languages - Sinhala, Tamil and English. First Lady Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa, Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne, Chief Justice Mohan Peiris, Ambassadors and many artists attended the event.
