Polls Chief in crackdown of abuse of state vehicles

Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has asked the police to seize state vehicles that are being misused during the period of the provincial council elections of the Sabaragamuwa, North Central and Eastern provinces.

Additional Elections Commissioner R.M.A.L. Rathnayake has told the media that the Elections Department has received numerous complaints about the misuse of state-owned vehicles by candidates for propaganda activities in certain areas in the three provinces.

The police have been directed to seize the misused state vehicles and place them under the general secretaries of the provincial councils.

The Elections Department has also issued necessary directives to the general secretaries of the provinces on the matter.
