Pakistan calls on Sri Lanka to work jointly to achieve regional peace and stability

Islamabad: Pakistan and Sri Lanka need to enhance corporation in various fields and work jointly for achieving regional peace and stability, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawas Sharif said.

Prime Minister Sharif expressed his views on the relationship between the two countries when Sri Lanka Army Commander Lieutenant General Crishanthe de Silva, called on the Pakistani leader at the PM House recently in Islamabad.

Expressing satisfaction over the level of existing cooperation between Pakistan and Sri Lanka during the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasised for further strengthening the defence related cooperation between the two countries.

The Sri Lankan Army commander thanked the Prime Minister for the warm welcome extended to him during his visit to Pakistan.

Pakistani Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif and National Security Advisor Lt. Gen. (R) Nasser Khan Janjua, were also present during the meeting.

Sri Lanka Army Chief also visited the Pakistan Army General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Wednesday.

Upon arrival the visiting General laid a wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada and called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

He was briefed about Pakistan Army’s continuing campaign against terrorist and banned organisations.

The Chief of Sri Lankan Army appreciated Pakistan Army’s achievements and contributions towards National and Regional security, an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release said.

“The visiting General thanked Pakistan Army for incessant support to Sri Lankan’s fight against terrorism and expressed full confidence in Pakistan’s ability to completely overcome the menace in near future,” ISPR said.

COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa thanked his Sri Lankan counterpart for his visit and acknowledgment.

Both sides reaffirmed their determination to work together for enhancing regional security and continuing existing military to military cooperation.
