Nalin to fill Dayasiri’s empty seat

Representing the United National Party, a new member – Nalin Priyantha Bandara, took oaths before the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Chandima Weerakkody yesterday, filling the seat left vacant by former Member of Parliament Dayasiri Jayasekara. Jayasekera extended his controversial resignation on 24 July.

MP Bandara was a member of the North Western Provincial Council. He secured the next highest preferential votes of 29,663 from the Kurunegala district for the UNP during the General Election held in 2010. Prior to becoming a politician, he was a mathematics teacher.
