Colombo: The United National Party (UNP) mayoral candidate for the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), A.J.M. Muzammil says the forthcoming local government elections would see the first step towards the party’s electoral victories.

Muzammil addressing an event in central Colombo has said the UNP victory at the CMC election would make Colombo one of the most developed cities in Asia.

He has also pledged to safeguard the rights of the poor people in the city and that no one would be evicted from their lands. Steps would be taken to ensure that people had the right to their land and housing, he said.

According to Muzammil, the fight against corruption in the current administration would commence from the CMC.

The opposition party has failed to win any election held since 2001. (Colombo Page)
