The menace of drug peddlers, looters, extortionists should be wiped out of the country, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said.

He made these remarks addressing the newly-sworn in UPFA members of 21 local bodies who were elected at the recently-held LG polls. He requested all to contribute to this venture in order to rid the country of this menace.

All odds of the past should be set aside he said, while urging the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor of Kolonnawa to work in unity.

Moves should be taken to prevent unpleasant incidents such as the shootout on election day, he added.
