The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Central Committee made three key decisions at a meeting and appointed a disciplinary committee to take action against party rebels.

The party decided that members should not criticise or challenge the party leadership, seniors or decisions in public and the media and no member could address public events or make statements to the media without receiving proper approval from the party.

Further the Committee decided to initiate disciplinary action against any member who violates the party Constitution.

JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said that a disciplinary committee consisting Vijitha Herath, Jinadasa Kilthulegoda and Lakshman Nipunarachchi has been appointed by the Central Committee. Silva said the committee has been vested with the power to initiate disciplinary action against members who violate the party ethics.

The JVP dissidents who had arrived at the party headquarters for the Central Committee meeting had walked out after expressing their objections to the party move to carry out body checks on all committee members and to keep their mobile phones outside.

Silva said the members were asked to keep mobile phones outside in order to prevent them from disturbing the meeting and the physical checks had been carried out on every member including the party leader.
