International Police Conference

The International Police Conference ‘Future Policing: Prospects and Challenges for South Asia’ was held this week at the Kingsbury Hotel in Colombo under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.

The aim of this conference was to discuss South Asian policing methods and to make reforms in the police service while identifying the common issues in the region and understanding the diversity among them. The conference concluded on 6 October.

This conference was organised jointly by the National Police Commission, the Regional Centre for Strategic Studies and the Sri Lanka Police, in collaboration with the United Nations, coinciding with the 150th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Police.

During the ceremony a special memento was presented to President Sirisena by Sri Lanka Police Commission Chairman Prof. Siri Hettige. The Secretary to the Ministry of Law and Order Jagath P. Wijeweera, Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara, Regional Centre for Strategic Studies Executive Director Professor Imitiaz Ahmed and many others participated in this event.
