Herman granted bail by Matara HC

Father of ex-UNP member and Provincial Councillor Maithri Guneratne, Herman Guneratne was granted bail by the Matara High Court yesterday. Herman Guneratne was arrested by Matara Police on 5 October after he discharged a personal firearm repeatedly into the crowd during the UNP’s home-and-home clashes on 5 October in the Matara Town. Guneratne’s bail application was first made before the Matara Magistrate, who rejected the appeal. The Matara High Court later granted the bail appeal. At least three persons were wounded by gunshots during the Matara clashes. (DB)
