Case against Arsecularatne PC over “ringing phone” in Court terminated

The Galle High Court Judge K.B.K. Hirimburegama terminated the contempt of court case fixed for trial against President’s Counsel Rienzie Arsecularatne after his cellular phone rang inside a court house. 

The trial against former Solicitor General was fixed for 22 January after his cellular phone rang while attending a case in the Galle High Court.

It is reported that the case was terminated as the ringing of the cell phone was not an intentional act of the former Solicitor General to disturb the decorum of the court proceedings.

Upon inquiry, Arsecularatne he said that on the day the incident took place, he informed Court that the ringing was unintentional and he merely failed to switch off the phone or to switch it to silent mode.

Galle High Court Judge Hrirmburegama charged President Counsel Arsacularatne on 29 November for reportedly allowing his phone to ring inside the Galle High Court while the Court was in session.
