CAA rakes in Rs.34 million on fines

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) of Sri Lanka has said that over 800 raids on errant traders have earned the Authority over Rs. 34 million.

CAA Chairman Rumy Marzook has told the media that the Authority has conducted about 800 raids this month with fines totalling Rs. 5,653,900.

He has said that the CAA has collected Rs. 34,000,806 through fines from January to June this year.

The raids have been carried out on traders who have violated the Consumer Protection Act by not displaying the retail prices and selling expired products. The CAA has deployed special teams in main cities across the country to conduct raids. (
