Australian Prime Minister confirms CHOGM attendance

The new Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has confirmed his attendance at the Commonwealth Heads of State Summit to be held in Colombo in November this year.  Abbott confirmed his attendance during a telephone conversation with President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday. Australia is the current Chairman of the Commonwealth having held the CHOGM 2011 in the Australian city of Perth. The Liberal-National coalition led by Tony Abbot came to power for the first time in six years in the elections held on 7 September. The coalition won 88 seats to the Labour Party’s 57 in the 150-seat parliament. Accordingly Tony Abbot became the 28th Prime Minister of Australia.
