Army de-lists and discharges over 33,000 personnel

The Sri Lanka Army says that 33,532 personnel have been de-listed and discharged last year for failing to report to duties.

The Army has stated that a total of 71,458 personnel had failed to report for duties, out of which 33,532 personnel had been de-listed and discharged.

The de-listing of personnel had been carried out according to the military proceedings.

According to the Army, disciplinary action is to be initiated against them since they had failed to report to their respective regiments and had failed to surrender.

Most personnel who had been de-listed have had to be traced down and arrested by the Military Police.

The Army has stated that personnel, who have deserted the force for more than one year, will be sent to a rehabilitation process and then recruited back to the service or released after the rehabilitation.

The military has decided to be stern on the deserters following several investigations that showed the involvement of a number of Army deserters in the recent wave of serious crimes.
