The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayaka and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Vice President Nimal Siripala de Silva have expressed their resistance to the Cabinet decision to recognising the Joint Opposition as a separate group in Parliament, political sources said.

They have raised their personal objection over the decision while the majority of the Cabinet including Speaker Karu Jayasuriya have been agreeable to recognising the Joint Opposition MPs group as separate.

The Joint Opposition was to hold a protest on Wednesday inside the house to voice its demands. However it had decided to abort the planned protest as most of its requests had been met. (CG)
