Young political leaders from South and Southeast Asia meet with Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus

Young political leaders from across South and Southeast Asia with their staff members and representatives from the Institute of Konrad Adenauer Stiftung met with the Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus following their visit to Parliament.

Young political leaders from across South and Southeast Asia engaged in constructive dialog with the Women Parliamentarians’ Caucus held recently Chaired by Women and Child Affairs Minister Saroja Savithri Paulraj and its members.

Expressing views, the Chair of the Caucus stated that the 10th Parliament consists of the largest representation of women in Parliament from various political, ethnic and religious backgrounds. Furthermore, the Chair stated that main focus of the Caucus is on empowering women, eliminating violence and harassment, advocating for gender equality, and to curate legal and policy reforms.

The Chair further elaborated on the significance of the Caucus in increasing women’s participation in politics, safeguarding their rights, advocating regarding health and education issues, supporting underprivileged women and providing vocational training to improve livelihoods.

Members of the delegation also shared their experiences and expressed their views. Following cordial discussions, the delegation toured the Chamber and the Parliament and also observed the Parliament sessions.

This occasion was attended by the Deputy Co-Chair of the Caucus Samanmali Gunasingha, as well as MPs Dr. Kaushalya Ariyarathne, Nilanthi Kottahachchi, Chathuri Gangani, Nilusha Lakmali Gamage, Thushari Jayasingha, Anushka Thilakarathne, Lakmali Hemachandra, Krishnan Kalaichelvi, Deepthi Wasalage, Oshani Umanga, and Ambika Samivel.
