Young journalist off to India on scholarship

Minaza Hassan, the winner of the Lakshman Kadirgamar Scholarship for a young journalist to undergo a course of study and advanced training at the prestigious Malayala Manorama Group of Newspapers, left for India this week.

Hassan is the 10th recipient of the scholarship that is awarded by the Lakshman Kadirgamar Foundation in partnership with the Sri Lanka Press Institute and The Editors› Guild of Sri Lanka. She will be attached to the Newspaper Group›s School of Communications (MASCOM) to follow its Diploma course.

Hassan, 25, is a resident of Thulhiriya. She had her secondary education at Royal International School, Kurunegala, and Kegalu Balika Vidyalaya, Kegalle, and obtained a law degree (LL.B) from Staffordshire University, UK. She came first in the 2022/23 Intake at the Sri Lanka College of Journalism.

The scholarship is part-funded by the proprietors of the Malayala Manorama Group in memory of former Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar.
