Wijesiri Basnayake appointed Chairman of Committee on Ways and Means

NPP MP Wijesiri Basnayake

National People's Power (NPP) MP Wijesiri Basnayake has been elected Chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means.

He was appointed to this position following the resignation of former Chairman Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma from his parliamentary seat. Basnayake’s name was proposed by MP Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe and seconded by MP Attorney-at-Law Ajith P. Perera.

Expressing their views before the newly appointed Chairman, members of the Committee stated that both Government and Opposition MPs would extend their cooperation to ensure that the Committee’s scope and responsibilities are properly addressed. Accordingly, consensus was reached regarding the timely matters to be discussed in the future and the institutions to be summoned before the Committee, which includes Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Deputy Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe, and MPs Ajith P. Perera, Eranga Weeraratne, Ashoka Sapumal Ranwala, K. Sujith Sanjaya Perera, Attorney-at-Law Nilanthi Kottahachchi, Ruwan Mapalagama, and Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe.
