The World Health Organisation (WHO) said it has confirmed multiple attacks on healthcare facilities in Iran during the ongoing US–Israeli military campaign, while also investigating reports that several medical personnel were killed or injured.
Speaking at a press briefing, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the agency had verified 13 attacks on healthcare infrastructure in Iran and one incident in Lebanon. He did not attribute responsibility for the strikes or provide further operational details.
At the same briefing, WHO Regional Director Hanan Balkhy said four ambulances in Iran had also been damaged. She added that hospitals and other health facilities had sustained minor structural damage from nearby strikes, citing information from Iranian authorities. One hospital in the capital Tehran was evacuated following the incident, the UN health agency had previously noted.
Iran’s ambassador to the UN in Geneva has claimed that 10 healthcare facilities were struck by military action, according to a letter sent earlier this week to the WHO chief.
Balkhy also said the WHO logistics hub in Dubai, which distributes medical supplies to dozens of countries, is temporarily unable to operate due to regional transport restrictions linked to the conflict.
