The Government has decided to observe Vesak Full Moon Poya Day on 30 May, with Vesak Week scheduled from 27 May to 2 June.
Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa addressing the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing noted that the decision was taken following a request by the Chief Prelates.
Accordingly, the day after Vesak Poya, 31 May, will also be declared a public holiday, the Minister noted.
He said a Gazette notification formalising the declaration will be issued by the Public Administration Ministry.
