The COVID-19 vaccination program for children with comorbidities and cognitive impairments in the 12 to 19 age category commenced across the Western Province today.

The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is being administered to this group and vaccination will take place from general hospitals, district hospitals, teaching hospitals, and base hospitals.

Sri Lanka Paediatricians Association President Prof. Shaman Rajindrajith said there was no need for children from other provinces to travel to the Western Province for vaccination as the vaccination drive for children in the 12 to 19 age group with comorbidities is expected to expand across the island in a few days.

He went on to say that 150 children with disabilities were vaccinated at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children on Saturday. “In addition to this, close to 60 children were vaccinated at the Kurunegala hospital and the Anuradhapura hospital,” Prof. Rajindrajith said.

According to this, no severed adverse effects have been reported thus far. An allergic reaction was observed in one child, who soon recovered.
