Unemployed graduates who will be recruited under the latest Government program will undergo a three-week leadership training, Public Service, Provincial Council and Local Government Ministry Secretary J.J Ratnasiri said yesterday.
Speaking to Daily FT Ratnasiri said graduates will be given training that will increase their self-confidence and ability to work collectively in the public sector. He noted the training would also focus on training new recruits to adapt to different situations and be capable of smart decision-making.
“All new recruits will undergo this leadership training and after that they will be also be sent to various institutes including private firms to improve their leadership qualities and skills that will enable them to be productive and contribute to the State,” he said.
According to Ratnasiri, the leadership training will be given at military facilities due to the space factor. He pointed out that military facilities were chosen as they have the resources to provide a training to a large number of graduates at once.
The Secretary also noted that appointment letters had been sent to respective Divisional Secretariats to be handed over to graduates once they report to the Divisional Secretariat on 2 September.
“There will be no ceremonies and appointment will be given in simple manner as that will save State funds. This is an initiative introduced by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa,” he added.
Under this program 60,000 unemployed graduates will receive jobs. President Rajapaksa pointed out that during the one-year training program, more attention should be paid to nurture qualities such as leadership, meeting targets, and building confidence.
He also pointed out the importance of offering jobs for selected graduate employees at new State Ministries to achieve the set goals of those ministries.
