  • $ 890,000 of UK support will provide emergency supplies and life-saving care to those affected
  • Assistance delivered through humanitarian partners already on the ground, including Red Cross

The UK has announced £ 675,000 ($ 890,000) in urgent humanitarian support to families affected by Cyclone Ditwah.

This vital assistance will be delivered through humanitarian partners on the ground, including the Red Cross, UN agencies, and local civil society organisations. It will provide immediate relief to those who have lost homes and livelihoods.

The funding will enable humanitarian partners to deliver essential supplies including shelter materials, clean water, and sanitation facilities to meet immediate needs of affected families.

During a meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath yesterday, Acting British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Theresa O’Mahony reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting recovery efforts following extreme weather conditions caused by cyclone Ditwah.

In a statement, King Charles III also expressed his deepest condolences to all those affected by Cyclone Ditwah, paying tribute to the courage of emergency responders and all those providing assistance during this time of hardship.

The UK continues to stand in solidarity with Sri Lanka, and the donation reflects the enduring partnership and friendship the UK shares with the people of Sri Lanka.
