JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva
Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary Tilvin Silva declared that no other Government would be formed in Sri Lanka in the future, insisting that the National People’s Power (NPP) administration would continue to lead the country as it pursues its political and economic reform agenda.
Addressing the NPP May Day rally held in Kalutara last Friday, Silva stressed that the current administration cannot be overthrown through conventional political pressure or street protests, asserting that the Government enjoys strong public backing across the country.
He said the “people’s wall” protecting the administration was not limited to Kalutara, but extended across all 21 districts, reflecting what he described as a nationwide mandate for the Government’s program.
“The NPP, symbolised by the ‘compass,’ would continue to govern until the country is rebuilt, and its long-term development goals are achieved,” he affirmed in one of the strongest political statements during this year’s May Day rallies.
Silva also launched a sharp attack on Opposition groups, accusing them of attempting to create political instability by calling for protests and agitation against the Government.
Referring to Opposition activists and critics, he said some groups who had been politically weakened were now gathering in public places and speaking about toppling the Government through mass protests (Aragalaya). However, Silva argued that such efforts would not succeed, claiming that if anyone wanted to understand political struggle, they should learn from the JVP-led movement, which he said had historically shaped the country’s protest culture.
Silva asserted that the political direction set by the NPP administration would define Sri Lanka’s future governance.
“All we have to tell them is that there will be no other governments after this,” the JVP General Secretary told supporters.
