Three commercial ships have been attacked in the Gulf near the Strait of Hormuz, with one vessel catching fire, according to international media reports citing AFP.
The incidents occurred close to the strategic waterway that links the Persian Gulf with global shipping lanes and serves as one of the world’s most critical routes for oil and gas transport.
Reports said one of the vessels was set ablaze during the attack, while two other ships were also struck in the same incident.
The developments have heightened concerns over the security of maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow passage through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply is shipped.
