TNA, JVP unhappy with prorogation

Both the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) have expressed their displeasure at the lengthy prorogation of Parliament.

The TNA in its official Twitter handle @TNAmediaoffice said it would’ve been legitimate for President @Gotabaya to prorogue Parliament for a week, so that a new session commences with his address on Government policy. “One month is excessive and obviously for collateral purposes and hence anti-democratic and indeed illegal,” the TNA said.

JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake also took to Twitter to express his displeasure at the prorogation. “The President can address Parliament at any time without proroguing it. So, the intention behind prorogation for a month seems to be weaken the legislature, Shut the voice of the real opposition, preventing post-election undemocratic acts to be discussed & dissolving COPE,” he said on his Twitter handle @BimalRathnayake.
