Suspect posing as journalist arrested in alleged plot to assassinate ‘Harak Kata’

Police yesterday arrested a suspect linked to underworld figure “Bako Saman” in Maharagama, over an alleged plot to assassinate Nadun Chinthaka, alias “Harak Kata.”

According to the Western Province North Crimes Division, the suspect, an employee of a State institution had planned the attack under the instructions of underworld figure “Kehelbaddara Padme”.

Investigators said the man had intended to disguise himself as a journalist to infiltrate a Court premises, where Harak Kata is being held in custody.

At the time of arrest, Police recovered a revolver and a destroyed video camera, believed to have been intended as part of the disguise.

Further investigations are underway to determine the extent of the plot and the involvement of other parties.
