Former State Intelligence Service Director Suresh Sallay has suspended the hunger strike he launched while in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), following advice from his legal counsel.

Sallay, who is being held as part of the ongoing investigation into the 2019 Easter terrorist attacks, had begun the fast while under CID detention.

He was subsequently admitted to the Colombo National Hospital, where he has remained for more than two weeks receiving medical treatment.

The former intelligence chief continues to remain in CID custody as investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks proceed.
