Sri Lanka reaffirms support for earthquake victims in Myanmar

Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath held a telephone conversation yesterday with Myanmar Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Union Minister U Than Swe, conveying condolences and reaffirming Sri Lanka’s support during this challenging time.

During the conversation, Minister Herath announced that the Government of Sri Lanka has pledged $ 1 million for Myanmar’s earthquake recovery efforts. He also expressed readiness to deploy a medical and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) contingent from the Sri Lanka Armed Forces and provide essential relief items to assist those affected.

The telephone call will be followed by a courtesy call by Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra on Minister U Than Swe in Bangkok today on the sidelines of the sixth BIMSTEC Summit.
