- Introduces two hotlines 1997 and 118, an email address firstname.lastname@example.org to gather information via public
Sri Lanka Police yesterday said investigations have been launched into 59 WhatsApp group admins, who allegedly encouraged violence on Monday (9).
Police said such individuals will be prosecuted under the Computer Crime Act and the criminal law. Sri Lanka police also introduced two hotlines 1997 and 118 and an email address email@example.com for the public to report on incidents which led to violence on Monday.
The Police warned public not to engage in violence, noting curfew regulations has been strictly enforced from last night, including the authority to open fire if such incidents are reported.
In this backdrop, Sri Lanka Police urged public not to gather along roads, engage in looting or destructive actions.
