Special hotline launched to report illegal liquor

The Excise Department is set to launch a special four-digit hotline, 1913, today to receive public complaints on illegal liquor.

This 24-hour hotline will receive confidential complaints on illegal manufacturing of liquor in any part of the country.

According to the Excise Department Commissioner General Helen Meegasmulla, possession of illegal liquor, transportation, and even possession of licenced liquor above the prescribed limit are illegal. Therefore, the public have been requested to inform the Excise Department making use of the 1913 hotline to eradicate the menace of illegal liquor trade in the country.
