Speaker endorses certificate on Poisons, Opium and Dangerous Drugs (Amendment) Act

Speaker of House Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has endorsed the Poisons, Opium and Dangerous Drugs (Amendment) Act No. 41 of 2022.

The Bill was passed in Parliament on 19 October and came into effect yesterday, following the Speaker endorsing the certificate on the Bill yesterday.

On 9 September, Justice, Prisons Affairs and Const-itutional Reforms Minister Wijedasa Rajapakshe submitted the Bill to Parliament to amend the Poisons, Opium and Dangerous Drugs Ordinance. 

The Poisons, Opium and Dangerous Drugs Ordinance amends the law relating to Poisons, Opium and Dangerous Drugs.

The amendment of this Act is expected to update and strengthen existing laws based on the need arising regarding the possession and use of the importation of drugs.
