Spain has withdrawn its Ambassador to Israel, according to an announcement published in the country’s official State Gazette, signalling a further deterioration in diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Following the decision, the Spanish Embassy in Israel will be headed by a chargé d’affaires rather than a full ambassador.

Madrid has been among the EU members most critical of Israel’s military operations in Gaza and has also voiced concern over the wider conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran.

Relations between Spain and Israel have strained in recent months, particularly after Spain formally recognised a Palestinian State and called for stronger international action over the Gaza conflict.

The latest step reflects Spain’s continuing criticism of Israel’s military campaign and the broader escalation of tensions in the Middle East.
