Solicitor General Dayaratne appointed Acting Attorney General

Solicitor General Viraj Dayaratne

Solicitor General Viraj Dayaratne, PC has been appointed as the Acting Attorney General by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, until Attorney General Parinda Ranasinghe returns to the country.

Dayaratne, who has served as Solicitor General since November 2024, brings over three decades of experience at the Attorney General’s Department, where he currently heads the Criminal Division. He was appointed a President’s Counsel in May 2018 and previously served as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) from 2020 to 2023.

This is not his first stint in the role, having also served as Acting Attorney General on a prior occasion.
