Six SLPP independent MPs crossover to Samagi Jana Alliance

Minutes before the 2023 Budget, six Parliamentarians from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna declared themselves as independent MPs and joined the Samagi Jana Alliance.

The six MPs are Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Sudarshini Fernandopulle, Chandima Weerakkody, W.D.J. Seneviratne, Jayarathne Herath, and Piyankara Jayaratne.

Leader of the Opposition and SJA Leader Sajith Premadasa commended the MPs for joining hands to work towards rebuilding the country, noting that unity is crucial in working more strongly and collectively in the future. MP Anura Priyadarshana Yapa pledged to contribute towards building the SJA as a strong force.
