MP Shan Wijayalal De Silva says he crossed over as it is a national duty to support program by Premadasa

SJB MP S.M. Marikkar says De Silva’s crossover is a beginning of more crossovers in coming days

Sajith Premadasa declares De Silva’s crossover a positive indicator for SJB’s political future.

Marking the first political crossover for the New Year, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Galle district MP and Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Senior Vice President Shan Wijayalal De Silva yesterday extended his support to the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) led by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.

De Silva met with Premadasa yesterday morning in Kolonnawa to confirm his crossover to the party. Premadasa also appointed De Silva as the Chief Organiser of Ambalangoda Electorate for the SJB. During the meeting, he received his SJB party membership and letter of appointment from Premadasa.

Addressing a press conference De Silva said he felt it was a national duty to rally around the program presented by Premadasa to uplift and revive the country and to win future elections.

Speaking at the event SJB MP S.M. Marikkar said De Silva’s crossover is just the beginning and more MPs will join the SJB shortly. “They will be untainted persons with no allegations,” he said.

Premadasa, addressing the media, characterised the crossover as a positive indicator for the SJB’s political future. “A person like Shan Vijayalal De Silva with an untainted character and a creative people’s representative joining us today is a positive sign,” he said. The SJB leader assured the party would not breach the trust placed in them by De Silva and engage in public service together with him.

De Silva, a senior member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) was elected as a Member of Parliament during the last General Election representing Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).

He is also a three-time former Chief Minister of the Southern Province and the former Governor of Eastern Province.
