Health authorities yesterday confirmed seven COVID-19 deaths which brought the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 339.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, two of the seven deaths occurred yesterday. One was of a 53-year-old individual from Hettipola who died of COVID-pneumonia while receiving treatment at the Homagama Base Hospital.
An individual from Nuwara Eliya also passed away yesterday. He tested positive for COVID-19 while receiving treatment at the Nuwara Eliya District Hospital and was transferred to the Homagama Base Hospital, where he died of COVID-pneumonia. He was 62 years old.
On 3 February, a 58-year-old individual from Maggona died of COVID-pneumonia and complications of kidney disease. He was identified as COVID-19-positive while receiving treatment at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital and was then transferred to the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH), where he passed away.
The same day, an individual from Weuda died of COVID-pneumonia, exacerbated heart disease and damage to the kidneys. According to the Department of Government Information, the individual tested positive for COVID-19 at a private hospital in Kandy and was transferred to the Teldeniya Base Hospital, where he passed away at the age of 82 years. A 70-year-old individual from Katugasthota also passed away on 3 February. He tested positive for COVID-19 while at the Kandy General Hospital and was transferred to the Teldeniya Base Hospital. However, he died of acute COVID-pneumonia with kidney disease and heart disease.
On 2 February, an individual from Biyagama died of COVID pneumonia and acute lung infection at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. He was 66 years old.
The previous day, a 78-year-old individual from Borakanda in Dikwella died of heart dysfunction with COVID-19, high blood pressure and high blood lipids. The individual passed away at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, where she was transferred to from the Matara District Hospital.
