Senior Journalist Chamuditha gets Police protection

Senior Journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrama whose Piliyandala residence came under attack by unidentified individuals has received Police protection from yesterday. President Counsel Kuwera De Zoysa yesterday filed an application before the Kesbewa Magistrate’s Court seeking Police protection for senior journalist and TV presenter Chamuditha Samarawickrama, as he has become a target from a unidentified group.

The Magistrate directed the Superintendent of the Special Unit of the Police to provide protection to Samarawickrama and to report its progress in court on 25 March.

The Counsel filed this application under the Assistance to and Protection of Victims and Witnesses Act of 2015 and pleaded the Magistrate to issue an order directing the Superintendent of the Special Unit of Police, to provide protection to Samarawickrama as his life is in danger.
