Schools will be permitted to reopen under phase two only after a dengue-related inspection by a Public Health Inspector (PHI) is carried out and relevant certification is issued.

The Department of Government Information yesterday stated that this measure is being taken due to the rise in dengue cases in the country. According to the Epidemiology Unit, 1,218 dengue cases have been reported in June, of which 293 were from Kandy, 191 were from Colombo, and 142 were from Ratnapura.

Last month, 1,369 dengue cases were reported and a total of 21,649 cases have been reported so far this year.

Total COVID-19 cases rise to 2,042
