Samantha Ranasinghe sworn in as MP

Samantha Ranasinghe was yesterday sworn in as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Kegalle district before Speaker of the House Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.

Ranasinghe fills the vacancy in Parliament following the demise of National People’s Power (NPP) MP late Kosala Nuwan Jayaweera.

Jayaweera passed away on 6 April at the age of 38 due to a severe heart attack while receiving treatment at the Karawanella Hospital.

Ranasinghe, who served as the Rambukkana Electoral Organiser of the NPP during the 2024 General Election, was next on the NPP list based on the preference votes obtained.
